Welcome

Driven by an insatiable fascination with the intersection of neuroscience and technology, I am committed to unlocking the secrets of the human brain and shaping the future of artificial intelligence to usher in a new era of transformative progress for humanity.

I enjoy connecting my technology pursuits with the community any way I can because I truly believe that big results start with small steps. I love playing tennis and am still not over the fact that Federer has retired.

I attended American High School in Fremont, CA and am currently a Deans List and Semester Honors student at Purdue University. Welcome to my page highlighting some of the highlights of my high school journey.

Zenn Path

Can you programmatically connect emotions with efficiency?

When the drag of the pandemic monotony started to affect my work, that is exactly what I was intrigued about.

Determined to find a a better solution than existing productivity applications that ignored the state of mind, I conceptualized a productivity mobile application that combined task and mood management to intelligently recommend ways to boost individual results. The concept was selected nationally by the 2021 Stanford Neuroscience High School forum for promising and original ideas and I was motivated to make this available to others.

After late night self-learning of Swift/Xcode (Thank you Dr Angela Wu at Udemy!) and months of design iteration, Zenn Path came to life on the Apple App Store!

It has been extremely gratifying to see positive reviews from strangers around the globe who found it useful. With organic daily downloads (fun fact - Netherlands, the top 5 happiest country of the world, has the second highest downloads after US!), I am excited about the possibilities that this opens up. With advice from Dr. Jamie Zeitzer at Stanford, I also built AI-based user-rating feedback loop for customized recommendations.

Update - As I move on to other exciting entrepreneurial projects, I did not renew the app on the App Store past 2023. But you can still see some glimpses of the app in the link below!

Neuromatter

How does psychology lead to a deep interest in computer science?

Well, thats what happened to me after AP Psychology helped me discover the fascinating and symbiotic relationship between neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

Excited to carry this forward, I founded Neuromatter, a youth neuroscience organization that explores interdisciplinary topics aimed at inspiring curiosity and innovation in STEM. We provide a forum to publish peer-reviewed articles, inspiring STEM content, prepare for competitions and collaborate on self-projects.

What started as an idea grew to >40-member strong organization in the first year and is an American High School club associated with the Science Olympiad group. Our You Tube channel with AI/ML tutorials has amassed more than 1000 views and we were recently selected to join the Stanford Neuroscience journal club, JClub. We continue to foster partnerships, both globally (Dana Foundation) and locally (inter-school Fremont Unified school district) to organize events and engage in the community while having a total blast!

Come check us out and join the movement!

Research Internship at Stanford

Research Internship at Dr Richard Zare Lab at Stanford

Can you use human sweat to detect diseases?

Yes, you can and thats the power of machine learning I hope to dive deep into. I am incredibly excited to be working as a computer science research intern in Dr. Richard Zare’s lab in the Stanford Department of Chemistry. Under the mentorship of Dr. Zare and his team, I investigate mass spectra of human sweat samples using statistical machine learning methods to detect unique identifiers between healthy and diseased sets.

I built a binary logistic classifier using LASSO-regression and continue to tune it using 10-fold cross validation.

Research Internship at Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI)

I was also selected for the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging Summer Research Internship this past summer.

It was an incredible opportunity to learn from world-class research experts and industry-leading professionals about the latest advances in medical imaging, a field where AI is already surpassing human capabilities. Here I built ResNet convolutional neural network with bounding box method to annotate and classify implanted devices in radiology scans.

City of Fremont Youth Wellness Ambassador Program Leader

Does technology hurt or help wellbeing?

On the heels of building my wellness-based productivity mobile application, Zenn Path, I was invited by the City of Fremont to lead the 2021 Youth Wellness Ambassador Program. And no surprises, I conceptualized a theme of “Role of Technology in Wellbeing”

I built, led and promoted a 12-week engaging curriculum, with research of the changing landscape of wellness technology (targeted at $1.5 Trillion by McKinsey), a focus group to study wellness apps, a community survey to study trends of technology usage and a grand public finale with guest speaker from Google Health.

With more than 200 applicants, the interest in the program grew 6 times. Collaborating with the City of Fremont and local school counselors, we received 300+ survey responses, where we learnt that Fremont youth firmly believed that technology helps wellbeing more than hurt it! Working with Ms. Annie Bailey and the student ambassadors was one of the most enriching experiences I’ve had.

I received a proclamation for Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day by Mayor Mei for my outstanding contributions to raise mental health awareness, but the real joy was seeing the rousing presentations from the student ambassadors!

I now continue to advocate for youth issues as student representative in the City of Fremont Youth Advisory Commission and hope to encourage involvement through youth-focused technology initiatives. If you want to get involved or would like to see your ideas represented, please drop me a note!

Tri-City Volunteers Food Bank Fundraiser

Do I have the power to change the world?

As the covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc around the globe, I saw its effects in my own community. The line of cars stretched for a mile around the block - such was the overwhelming demand at the Tri-City Volunteers (TCV) food bank. As a long-time Boy Scout volunteer at TCV, I was aghast to learn about their its struggles to keep up with the need, which had nearly tripled. The food bank was in dire need of monetary support because of the loss of revenue from the associated thrift store that had to be closed due to the lockdown.

I felt compelled to do my part in fighting against the pandemic. As a member of the American High School’s Red Cross Club, I catalyzed the club and launched an online fundraiser to support TCV. Thanks to the incredible support of the community, Boy Scouts, City Council, friends, corporate donations, I was able to raise $6357, enough to feed 650 families for a week.

It was extremely humbling to be dubbed a “Hunger Hero” by TCV, but the real satisfaction was in knowing that TCV did not have to turn anyone away during the height of the crisis.

So Yes!, each of us has the power to change the world. I continue to do my part, whether it’s by raising $1000 for the Abode Homeless service, restoring a local school marquee as an Eagle Scout, or campaigning for causes I am passionate about.

Some of my Interests

Tennis

Tennis is the stuff of determination, resilience, discipline and grace. My happy place, it helps me recharge. I play for the American High School Varsity team.

Debate

Debate has been my labor of love since middle school. As captain of American High School Debate Team, I’ve helped increase the number of breaks/victories by 30%. A shining moment was when my partner and I took the championship and my team took a historic podium sweep at the prestigious 2021 Cal UC Berkeley Invitational!
